A Look at Disney's McFarland, USA

Not sure if you heard yet, but Disney's newest film, "McFarland, USA," is pretty inspiring. I am excited to see it in theaters, but unfortunately had a sick hubby when we were scheduled to see it during press pre-screening. I've read quite a few reviews and it's making me even more excited to have a date night to check this film out. The film was just released on February 20th, so make sure to see it soon! From friends that have seen the film, it is definitely family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

"McFarland, USA" is more than just an inspirational film about an underdog team and sports; It's about family, finding yourself, and your home. Know what's even more amazing? It's based on a true story and the town McFarland is not a made up name, but a real agricultural town in the heart of California, The Central Valley. I feel like this is going to be another great movie that many of us can relate to in one way or another.

The story follows Coach Jim White, his wife Cheryl and two daughters as they become acclimated to this small farm town. Coach White becomes an instructor at McFarland High and ultimately the new cross-country coach. We'll see the struggles and triumphs as he finds his place as these boys' mentor and coach, along with seeing the thematic element of family portrayed throughout.

Here's an extended clip of the film. Remember, "Champions can come from anywhere!"

About "McFarland, USA"

Based on the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.
